Now You Need Tap Shoes!
Updated: Dec 7, 2020
We've gotten you set up with ballet shoes and a leotard and tights. Now your child wants to add tap too! Hurray! Tap dancing is so much fun! Of course, now you need tap shoes!

The first thing you should do is check with your dance studio regarding their dress code. Some dance studios require black tap shoes, some tan and some prefer white tap shoes. Make sure you know which you need, so you don't have to return anything.
Just like everything else so far, you can either visit your local dance wear store, or purchase tap shoes online. I think the most important thing to look for when buying tap shoes is the actual tap and how it is fastened to the shoe. The best choice is shoes that have the taps attached with screws. The screws allow the tap to be tightened or loosened - which can change the tone of the sound the shoes make. It also allows you to replace the screw if it falls out. Additionally, taps with screws are generally better quality taps mounted on a fiberboard, allowing for better sound, rather than a thin tap mailed directly to the sole of the shoe.
There you have it! It's not too difficult once you know what you are looking for! Just remember to check with your dance studio about their requirements for shoe color.
